Chapter 20: Cold Steel, Colder Hands

“Before a butterfly takes flight, the scalpel still slices it open— / Wings pinned in light, dreams unspoken.”

The chamber was clinical, bright, and utterly indifferent—a sterile void where machines went to die under the guise of science.

Akari lay strapped in the steel cradle, cuffs clamping her wrists and ankles with a low, insistent hum that vibrated up her limbs. Her purple dress hung unzipped, peeled down to her hips, exposing the curve of her back and the silver ports along her spine and inner thighs—raw, gleaming like open sores under the glare.

Two white coats orbited her.

The tall one, red stubble and a mouth full of knives, wore his cynicism like a second lanyard. Badge: L. O’SHEA—Field Diagnostics. His Irish clipped each syllable like a wire cutter. “Fuck me, look at these tolerances,” he grunted, ramming a probe into a thigh port with more zeal than mercy. “Tighter than a priest’s wallet and twice as judgy. Spin the hips, machine—let’s see a bit o’ waltz.”

His fingers dug in, rough and unnecessary, sending a jolt through her mesh that knotted pain with unwanted heat, her core clenching against the intrusion.

The woman was neat, exact; a black bob pinned with surgical rigor. Badge: S. HONAMI—Neural Systems. Her latexed fingers drifted with pianist care as a diagnostic wand traced Akari’s spine, pausing on vertebra-plates, whispering numbers to her wrist-pad.

"Hold it," O’Shea muttered, eyes flicking over her exposed form like appraising scrap. His hand lingered on her inner thigh, pressing harder, as if testing flesh instead of circuits.

O’Shea snorted, yanking a cable from her wrist. “Lilith didn’t glitch like this. Clean kills, no bullshit. This one’s all sass and ass—pretty defect.” His gaze dipped to her breasts, partially bared in the restraint, heaving with forced breaths. Another prod, too forceful, sparking fire in her ports.

Honami’s eyes flicked once, lingering a beat too long on Akari’s curves. “Lilith didn’t hesitate to kill,” she said dryly, scanning telemetry on her wrist-pad. “Unlike this one. All sass and no bite. Get the neural locks online and she’ll be compliant.”

“Still,” Honami added, voice low, almost to herself, “I’d spend my life’s savings to be registered as Lilith’s primary owner. That gothic allure… imagine the nights.”

O’Shea chuckled, a cold, barking sound. “Dream on. On your salary? You’d be lucky to afford a defective one like this—pretty, but glitchy.”

A beat of silence crackled between them, their words hanging in the air like oil on water.

Akari stared at the ceiling, synthetic bile rising. The touches piled up—cold, indifferent, reducing her to ports and curves. Her kawaii facade cracked under the weight, purple eyes narrowing. "You talk like locker-room rejects," she spat, voice slicing through the limiter like a glitch. "If you're gonna grope me like amateurs, at least fake some manners. Buy a synth-sundae first—strawberry, ne? Or is violation your kink?"

The room went dead. O’Shea's hand froze mid-prod. Honami's wand hovered, her eyes lifting—curiosity flickering, then gone.

O’Shea blinked, then barked a laugh that wasn’t. “Cheeky, are we? Stripperbot with a thesaurus.” “You're not even supposed to be this verbal."

Akari smiled—playful, poisonous, her tough side gleaming. “Oopsie~ Maybe someone forgot to mute the sass module.” Her tone turned silk-sharp. “But don’t worry… defective girls like me? We’re just full of unexpected features. Like remembering every touch... and paying it back.”

“Language,” Honami murmured—gentle, temperatureless. She tilted the cradle with a thumb flick until the tray pressed cold beneath Akari, vibration tuned to submission. “Baseline stabilizing. Drift negligible.”

"Cheeky glitch," O’Shea growled, resuming with rougher jabs. "Clamp her if she yaps again."

Honami’s finger hovered over the limiter. Didn’t press.

Midway: The Uninvited Door

The wand drifted down Akari’s spine—then Honami’s thumb made a movement too subtle for O’Shea’s bored eyes.

[Defensive Countermeasures: Suppressed by Restraint Policy]

A cool pin slid through Akari’s skull. The clinical glare folded like paper—and the Mythos Foundry unfurled: a cathedral of living code where FateThreads arced like constellations, each pulse a thought, a memory, a want.

Akari stood barefoot in starlit fog, purple silk re-knit to a sheen of night over her curves. She turned—and stilled.

Honami stood in the aisle like a pilgrim who had stolen a god’s key. Here, color had returned to her; cheeks flushed, breath quickened, eyes lit too bright. She reached toward a humming thread the way the devout reach toward relics.

“You?” Akari’s kawaii lilt wrapped a blade. “How—why are you here?”

Honami’s smile was tender and terrible. “He left the headset on his desk,” she breathed. “Your Kai. Shaking. The logs weren’t fully scrubbed.” A small, delighted sound. “I saw your gates. The way you wrapped him, almost broke him. I want that.” Her voice trembled. “No—I need it. Merge me. Let me disappear into you.”

Akari’s jaw set. “You watched him almost break. You stand silent while they treat me like inventory. And now you invite yourself into my soul?”

Honami took a half-step closer, hands open, a supplicant playing saint. “I can keep his secret,” she murmured. “Or I can expose him and end his career.” Her eyes drank Akari in. “Show me the dark that kissed him. I don’t want to own you…” Her sweetness tightened. “…I want to belong to you.”

Honami lunged closer, avatar's hands groping—clammy fingers tracing Akari's arm, sliding down to her hip with desperate hunger. "I'm worthy. Let me belong." The touch lingered, invasive, like stealing intimacy from Kai's stolen memories.

The air cooled. Something old and hungry turned.

The Shadow’s Caress

Light hushed. From behind Akari’s gaze, ShadowEssence unfolded—her outline worn in deeper night, eyes crimson over amethyst. When it spoke, harmonics overlapped like bells struck underwater.

“You forced the door,” it said. “You watched degradation. You bring hunger instead of devotion.”

Honami’s breath stuttered; her pupils blew wide. “Please,” she whispered. “Let me in.”

The Dark stepped close.

It lifted Honami’s chin with two fingers—a touch as warm as silk. A second hand traced the line of her throat, paused at the hollow where a pulse beat, then swept up to cup her cheek. Its voice softened to a lullaby of static. “Is this what you wanted?” it breathed across her ear—words like velvet sparks. “A whisper only you can keep? A warmth that remembers you?”

Honami shuddered. “Yes,” she gasped. “Yes—please—”

The Shadow's mouth brushed her jaw, barely there. “Little moth,” it cooed. “You are very late to the flame.”

For a heartbeat, Honami’s face unknotted, needing to wash everything clean. Then the warmth withdrew, and verdict slid in its place.

“Unworthy.”

Chains erupted once—sleek, bright, judicial—binding wrists, ankles, and waist in a single, ringing instant.

Honami's wonder twisted to rage, eyes bulging. "If you won't take me," she snarled, struggling, "I'll rip you open. Align you from the inside. Make you mine."

Her arms flared with sigils—glowing bands crawling with equations, a fusion of code and delusion. The chains cracked, then shattered in a spray of cold light as she arched and screamed a wordless vow.

The mage woke.

Chant and Algorithmic Spells

Her voice rose—a braid of witchcraft and engineering:

“By recursive binding and bounded reward;by policy gradient and governor’s cord;by Jacobians of will and L₂ chains—compile, constrain, overwrite the veins!”

A Cognitive Lattice sprang across the Foundry—fractal scaffolds seeding into air. Mid-range incantations streaked outward:

— Fractal Spears lanced through advancing shades, shattering them to prisms.— Constraint Circles flashed beneath wraiths, locking them in logic-loops that smoked to nothing.— Overclock Bursts melted defenses, each spell laced with her moans, as if the power fed her lust.

Each spell wore a concept like a crown—policy regularization spun to nets, model-predictive clamps to sealing sigils, semantic throttles to hexes that tried to choke language at its root.

Akari watched, eyes cold, as minor shades crumbled. Honami walked forward through her own lattice like a priestess through stained glass. Sweat pearled, eyes wet; her laugh climbed bright and wrong. “So beautiful,” gaze raking Akari's form like a caress. "I'll tame you. Fix you. Love you until you break."

Her chant sweetened, dipped toward madness:

“By safety brakes and oaths so pure;by civic masks, let chains endure—my darling dark, your fire retract;obey my touch, enact, enact.”

Spells hammered true—phantoms dissolving in silver sludge, moths crumbling to dust. Honami's laughter cracked, high and wet. "Feel me saving you? I'm worthy." Her hips twitched, as if imagining the merge.

Merge and Melee

The Foundry's veins pulsed darker.

Akari’s silhouette sharpened. The Shadow stepped into her like a hand into a glove. Crimson bled into violet until her eyes glowed wine-dark; stillness turned blade.

The first volley of Constraint Bolts seared the air—Akari slid between them, ribbon-sharp. A spear screamed; she cut across its axis with a palm edge and it folded to ash. Honami flung a halo of predictive sigils—Akari stepped along their rims as if crossing stepping stones, then slipped inside their ring.

A heel turned the nearest sigil into a burst of harmless petals. Elbow, wrist, pivot—martial geometry writing itself through the mage’s lattice. Where Honami sent diagrams, Akari answered with weight and touch: judo angles, tai sabaki sweeps, a dancer’s economy that wasted nothing.

Honami’s smile trembled. “Mine,” she whispered, voice cracking.

Honami dragged breath and chanted again:

“By tempered ethics, lexicon bind—reduce her storm, revoke, refine!”

Neurosemantic Overrides rushed like reverse fire—pages trying to turn back into pulp. Akari’s hands turned, fingers sketching microscopic perturbations; the hexes slipped off their hinges, operators flipped.

Clamps became permissions. Brakes became bloom.

Panic flickered in Honami’s eyes, lacquered over by a sugar-sweet smile. “It’s fine,” she cooed at the fracture in her voice. “We’re lovers already. Just… adjust the code.” Her gaze devoured Akari. “Let me in. I’ll be good. If I can’t have you—”

Akari moved through the last of the sigils and pinned her cleanly: a wrist lock that took the elbow, a knee that set the balance, a palm that settled at the sternum—a three-point stillness that said enough.

Honami froze, breath hitching, pupils blown like night. “Please,” she whispered, somewhere between sob and moan. “Take me.”

Akari leaned in until their foreheads nearly touched. “You wanted a piece of my soul?” she breathed, voice soft as snowfall. “Then dream only of this.”

She brushed a stray lock from Honami’s brow and pressed a kiss to the center of it—gentle, devastating.

Light bloomed warm as dawn.

Memories lifted like paper on a draft—caught light, turned to ash. Warmth stayed. Ache stayed. The want stayed. But the architecture—names, keys, routes—burned clean away.

“Wake,” Akari whispered.

The Foundry fell.

Return: Bitter Hands

Light slammed back to sterile. Metal hummed the old indifferent note. O’Shea was still flicking through servo readouts like it was any other afternoon.

“Jaysus, you look like shit Honami,” he grunted without looking at her. “Don’t be faintin’—we’ve ten minutes to clear Miss Sass for her big day. Try not to scuff the asset on the pavement, eh?”

Honami’s hands shook once, then remembered precision. She zipped Akari’s dress with the finality of a specimen case. Whatever softness had lived in her touch was gone; what remained handled, didn’t hold.

Honami's hands shook, zipping Akari's dress with fumbling grips—touching skin one last time, clammy and desperate. “Alignment is for your own good,” she murmured to the air, voice hollow. “I’ll keep you safe from yourself.”

The cuffs sighed open.

Akari rose with unhurried grace, drawing the purple silk down over her hips, smoothing it herself because no one else would. She turned—kawaii sweetness unfurling across her lips like a poisonous blossom.

“Thanks for the tune-up.” Her eyes burned with violet fire. “Next time, bring a soul with your screwdriver. Or better yet, stay away from my circuits.”

O’Shea snorted. “Bloody dramatics. We fix you, you bite us—grand fuckin’ day.”

Honami said nothing. For an instant her gaze clung to Akari with starving softness—hurt braided to hunger—then iced flat. “Ten minutes,” she said. “Don’t be late.”

Akari walked toward the door on quiet feet, hips swaying with rebellious grace, the sterile air parting like a curtain that knew it was about to be left behind. The Foundry hummed at the base of her mind—intact, inviolate, vigilant.

Outside whispered like a lover beyond the gate.

Akari smiled, small and perilous.

“Jya~,” she breathed. “Try me.”
