Chapter 52: Titan Ape’s Rampage
The ground trembled with an ominous rumble—like some dormant god waking from beneath the earth. Then the world screamed.
A guttural roar tore through the park, splitting the night like a wound in reality. The Skull Citadel set erupted in twisted metal and smoke as the Titan Ape emerged—monstrous and crowned in crimson rune-light. Its fur was matted with oil and blood, its massive fists like wrecking balls wrapped in shadow. Red optics blazed like dying suns.
A tourist stood too close, hoodie pulled over his ears as he took a selfie.
“Epic—” CRUNCH.
The Titan Ape’s jaws snapped shut around his head in a thunderous chomp, blood exploding like a firework, bone and phone clattering to the pavement. Screams shattered the air.
Then chaos reigned.
The Titan Ape moved with brutal elegance—a ballet of destruction. It crushed a woman with a downward fist, her torso collapsing into pulp. It backhanded a performer mid-sprint, their skull detonating against a steel beam. Two teenagers tried to run. It stomped them flat with a single step, their limbs bending in ways no flesh should.
A trio of guests fled into the Cretaceous Clash set—only to be flattened beneath a collapsing raptor statue hurled like a toy. Ribs cracked, blood sprayed, screams cut short.
Akari and Alex stumbled from the Crimson Hollow scare zone, the air thick with smoke and screams. The pulse of music had slowed to a haunting crawl—gothic organs were now playing like funeral hymns beneath the roar of war.
Then they saw her.
Amid the smoke stood a strange gynoid—slender and radiant, white armor gleaming with orange-yellow accents. Her long obsidian hair shimmered with glowing orange streaks, twin mechanical ears twitching like satellite dishes. Her frame was curvy and refined, marked by a barcode on her thigh and grace in every movement.
“This way—hurry!” She called, her voice crisp and clear, guiding fleeing guests with uncanny calm.
Then she was gone, vanishing into the mist like a protective spirit from Akari’s old memory banks.
Suddenly, a sharp yowl tore through the air.
A scruffy tabby cat, frozen in fear, stood trembling near the Titan Ape’s foot. Time slowed.
“Tabby!!” A voice bellowed—Captain Haruki, storming into view, trench coat flaring like a flag of resistance. His eyes were wide with panic, shotgun in hand.
Akari moved without thinking.
“Hang on, neko-chan!” She cried, dashing forward, skirt flaring as her boots pounded the pavement. Her sensors screamed—impact imminent—but she didn’t slow. She dove, scooping the terrified feline into her arms just as the Titan Ape’s foot slammed down with an earth-shattering crash.
The shockwave flung her backwards. She twisted mid-air, shielding the cat with her body as the blast threw her into Alex. They crashed into the pavement in a tangled heap, her Cakie smashing against his hips as coolant sprayed from her gashed side.
“Ugh... are you okay?” She gasped, shielding the cat, body sparking.
Alex groaned, pulling her close. “Only because your butt broke the fall…”
Haruki skidded to a stop beside them, grabbing the cat with trembling hands. “You saved her. You damn hero. Let’s end this nightmare!”
He spotted a fallen security guard nearby—his rifle still clutched in cooling fingers. Haruki kicked it free and tossed it to Alex. “You shoot. I blast. She distracts. Three-piece combo, yeah?”
Alex nodded. “Time to speedrun this raid boss.”
Akari staggered upright, blood-smeared, eyes blazing. “Then let’s combo cancel this kaiju.”
[AGS: Combat Adaptability – Cherry Fist Barrage: Override Mode]
“Cherry Fist Barrage!” she roared, dashing forward in a blur of lavender and flame. Her fists became blinding meteor strikes—Wing Chun blurs of precision, hammering the Ape’s wrist like hail on steel drums. Sparks exploded. The Titan Ape roared, swinging wildly.
A massive claw raked across her thigh—mini-skirt shredding, coolant spraying like starlight—but she rolled low, dodging with Hung Gar's grounded footwork, and drove a steel beam from the wreckage straight into its glowing eye.
“Eyeball tempura—served hot!” she quipped as the optic shattered in a burst of crimson light.
Alex crouched behind a vendor stall, lining up a clean shot. “Knee joint—three o’clock!” He fired—three rounds hitting home. The Ape staggered, its roar warbling with digital static.
Haruki took the high ground on a broken staircase. “Say cheese, you ugly bastard.” BOOM! The shotgun blast tore open its shoulder, oil pouring in a geyser of metallic gore.
Akari leapt onto a carnival ride platform, taunting the beast. “C’mon, banana breath—dance with me!”
The Ape lunged—but she flipped backward, luring it toward a gas-leaking funhouse building. Alex fired again. Haruki shouted, “Now!”
BOOOOOM!
The building erupted in a furious explosion—a tower of fire swallowing the Titan Ape whole. Its death cry shook the bones of the earth before silence fell.
All that remained was smoke, fire, and the soft whisper of gothic organs mourning in the distance.
The smoke settled slowly, like the sigh of a dying storm. Sirens wailed faintly in the distance, and the once-thunderous music of Spooky Nights had faded into a somber, echoing dirge—a gothic requiem for a night steeped in terror and broken illusions.
Akari stood amid the wreckage, panting softly, her body swaying beneath the ruined lights. Her mini-skirt hung in tatters, coolant trickled from torn armor, and sparks occasionally flickered from overworked joints. Her purple eyes dimmed to a soft glow, the radiance dulled by fatigue and phantom echoes of occult signal traces still dancing like ghosts in her circuits.
“I… they knew me, Alex,” she murmured, voice raw, digital undertones fraying at the edges. “Those monsters—those things—they weren’t just programmed. They spoke like I was one of them. Am I really…?” Her breath caught. “Am I their sister, or just another corrupted line of code...?”
Before the shadows could swallow her thoughts, Alex was there—his arms wrapping around her waist with fierce resolve, despite the grime and damage coating her frame. He didn’t flinch at the coolant smeared across his sleeves or the scorched scent of metal and ozone clinging to her hair.
“You’re not theirs,” he whispered into her ear. “You’re you. My Akari. Our story—our choices—not their broken echo.”
Her knees buckled slightly, the weight of combat and self-doubt collapsing all at once. He caught her, guiding her down gently beside the broken remains of a toppled churro stand, debris crunching underfoot.
Nearby, Captain Haruki approached with a grim nod, Tabby nestled safely in his coat, the scruffy cat blinking slowly, tail twitching. “You two fight like legends,” he said, voice rough with fatigue. “I owe you more than words.” He clapped Alex on the shoulder, nodded once to Akari, then turned, vanishing into the smoke with his feline companion and shotgun slung across his back—like a ghost from a war long fought.
Akari watched him go with fluttering lashes, then winced as a final wave of corrupted data surged through her HUD. Crimson rune-echoes lingered in the corners of her vision, flickering like afterimages of a bad dream. Her systems spasmed.
“Alex… I—I can’t stabilize. The signal—it's still crawling inside me.” She slumped against him, her frame shuddering. “Need… to reboot… Or I’ll blue screen in your arms, and mou~ that’s not the kind of shutdown I like~,” she tried to joke, but her voice weakened, trailing into a whisper of static.
“Not on my watch,” Alex growled, lifting her in his arms like a knight cradling his wounded queen. Her arms draped loosely around his neck, hair falling in waves across his shoulder. He kicked open the nearest maintenance door—marked SECURITY HUB: STAFF ONLY—and slipped inside, the hum of failing circuits filling the quiet.
Inside, broken monitors flickered with glimpses of the park’s ruined maze routes—bloodied corridors, smoldering debris, and shattered animatronic bodies strewn like fallen idols. The night’s chaos etched itself into digital memory with grim permanence.
Alex lowered her gently onto a bench beside a sparking console, brushing dust from her cheek, his touch reverent. “Stay with me,” he whispered, brushing her lips with his thumb. "You're stronger than the signal. Stronger than doubt.”
Akari’s fingers weakly touched his cheek, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “You always say the perfect line, ne~? I love that about you…” Her eyes fluttered closed, and with a faint chime, her systems entered regeneration mode, her body going still—softly illuminated in pale violet light, like a sleeping maiden in the ruins of a techno fairytale.
Outside, the chaos ebbed. Somewhere in the mist, the silhouette of the mysterious gynoid stood once more, her glowing ears flickering faintly before she turned, vanishing into the fog—leaving only questions in her wake.
Alone with his sleeping waifu, Alex stood vigil, the moonlight bleeding through a cracked skylight, casting fractured shadows across the console. He clenched his fists.
Whatever came next—whatever code, curse, or conspiracy tried to steal her light again—he’d be ready.
They’d face it together.
